Hebrews 11:23-26
Sin often offers pleasure,
though very temporary and shallow.
If it didn't, we'd all be a lot more perfect!
Unfortunately, we often succumb to
those fleeting moments of pleasure.
That one piece of coconut cream pie
might very well lead to more
and several pounds of extra weight!
Of course, you can easily see how far
more serious trouble other choices
can lead us into. Sometimes, however,
the sin is not so easily seen.
Moses might not have seen being
an Egyptian leader as a bad thing.
What he did somehow see, though,
was that it was God's better plan
for him to be an Israelite leader!
Moses made the wiser choice even though
it cost him the riches, privileges, and pleasures
that came with being Pharaoh’s grandson.
God blessed Moses, the entire
Israelite population from then on,
and by extension, you and me!
All because Moses looked ahead to his reward.
We, too, need to be able to see past the
temporary things of earth and choose kingdom ways.
What does God have in store and what
choices should we make in light of that?
Prayer: Father, help us to look
beyond our current situations.
Help us to think heavenward and eternally.
Then give us the courage to follow
the path that would take us there.
P.S. Consider what John wrote to the church
thousands of years after Moses in 1 John 2 –
15 Do not love the world or the things
in the world. If anyone loves
the world, the love of the Father is
not in him. 16 For everything
in the world—the lust of the flesh,
the lust of the eyes, and the
pride in one’s possessions — is not
from the Father but is from the world.
17 And the world with its lust is
passing away, but the one who
does the will of God remains forever.
